fighting a liar Songtext

my friend was a scuba diver he could barely speak
god has told me that the earth shall inherit the meek
i will not
be afraid
of the life that i have laid
so with bravery i lead my own parade

paint by numbers landscape tumbles all around our heads
first they kill you then they want to know why you are dead
i don't want
to pretend
everyone is at their end
and i have fallen in to this suicidal trend

dreamed i was a lion tamer had too many teeth
dove into the fire for the prize that lies beneath
as i crawled
through the flames
though my body mangled and maimed
there a crimson shred of dignity remained

my friend was a bulldozer she cried herself to sleep
found a yellow paper crumpled in her pockets deep
said, i am
not ashamed
of the choice that i have made
i wish that you could see it was an even trade
