Creature

I'm wondering who was here before
I guess they must have liked it more
Am I everything they say-
Just a creature trying to stay out of harm's way?

I spent a night on ancient ground
I built a fire so I'd be found
It's getting cold, but I'm alright
I was born to put up a fight

And I can't slow down, I know

Did I crawl up on the shore-
Something never thought of before?
Or did I step into the light-
Feel it warm and burning bright?

And I can't slow down
I'm too far now
