Alone Songtext
I've thought about you once or twice while you were gone
I thought about changing the locks so you couldn't come home
It isn't very often I have time alone, I use it well before it's gone
So I made the bed, put away the quilts
but I left yours out, because I still don't know where they go
and that may be the only thing I don't know
about you when you go
Is this habit, or is this need
is this still hunger or someone to feed
there's a box of longing that I keep
by the bed where we sleep
And if I die before I wake, I pray that nobody will say
my life was just one big mistake, and all the risks I'd never take
If I die before I wake, I'll pray the lord this soul to take
I pray that it is filled with good and all these things I did for you
If I die before I wake, and the Earth is filled with earthquakes
the land off into the sea, and my whole world turns watery
the earth lets out just one last moan, that's the sound of us alone
that's the sound of alone
I've thought about you once or twice while you were gone
I thought about changing the locks so you couldn't come home
It isn't very often I have time alone, I use it well before it's gone
So I made the bed, put away the quilts
but I left yours out, because I still don't know where they go
and that may be the only thing I don't know
about you when you go
Is this habit, or is this need

by the bed where we sleep
And if I die before I wake, I pray that nobody will say

If I die before I wake, I'll pray the lord this soul to take
