Barefeet

i was woken by the postman
followed by the siren of an ice cream van
and the kids were making too much noise
i had to go out and shout and confiscate their toys
i want to buy a big house on a waterfront
with a view of the bay and with trees in front
it'll have to have heating in the swimming pool
so it's eighty six degrees even when it's cool
i want to be where i can walk in barefeet
'cause they don't break milk bottles in the back street
i was nearly asleep when i was disturbed
by a crack like a whip, but i knew what i'd heard
then there was a knock at my front door
it was eddie, he's a friend of my neighbor
eddie said "mike can i use your phone
billy's been shot in his own home"
i want to buy a big house...
i want to buy a little plastic yacht
even though i know I'd never use it alit
maybe we could take it out one day
go and visit some friends that live across the bay
i want to buy a big car and never drive it
have a double garage where i can i hide it
with temperature control so my leather seat
won't stick to my pants in the summer heat
i want to buy a big painting, a twelve by eight
by somebody who's famous and everyone hates
it'll have to be expensive and real sparse
and i won't know what it means when my friends ask
i just want to be where i can walk in barefeet
