She smelled the flowers in her hands
She set them down carefully and walked away
And she wondered if it's worth cryin'
But wondering wouldn't make much difference anyway

It was raining on the market square
She pulled out a handkerchief for her eyes
There was a siren in the distance
And the sting of a familiar face from sometime ago

At the station a homeless man on his knees and praying
He was saying something about heaven and all the things wrong today
Then someone shouted, "The train is coming"
