Reasonable Man

Something familiar in this face;
that documentary on the Civil War
had men almost as dead.
To cherish life, to live in grace;
is that what this experience is for?
Well that's what someone said.
But that would take a reasonable man,

We looked at birthday photographs,
secretly counting all the ones who died -
now scraps inside a book.
If someone could, they'd have to laugh.
