Obituary for a Fugitive (M. McDonald)
The wind wipes the traces off the road
And only flowers remain
The dust oh the dust it just comes and goes
But it gets in your eyes all the same
Sometimes one can't walk the road alone
You see a million faces by and by
Some memories fade away, others are put to stone
Like the foundation of the reality they defy
Looks like two more footprints disappeared
Life and death are really weird
This is the story of my old friend Fred
At least the part that ain't been told
He used to be alive but now he's dead
And his deed is gonna be with me 'til I'm old
No ambition, no incentive, no opinion
He had nothing but himself
To me he was no hero to himself he wasn't either
He had a problem but he didn't want no help
He didn't tell no one he just painted his picture
All across his bedroom wall
He didn't even stick around to hear anybody's lectures
What a shitty way to end it all
The wind wipes the traces off the road
And only flowers remain
The dust oh the dust it just comes and goes
But it gets in your eyes all the same
Sometimes one can't walk the road alone
You see a million faces by and by
Some memories fade away, others are put to stone
Like the foundation of the reality they defy
Looks like two more footprints disappeared
