Just Promise Me Songtext

So I guess it goes to show the ineffectiveness of hope,
When all that's left of you is a song or two you'll never hear at all.
And I guess that's just as well;
I'd hate to justify myself.
Those words came from a part of me that's dead and gone by now.

If I could ask for just one thing,
Would you still do this for me?
If I could have one last request,
Would you just promise me this?
Please smile when you remember me.

The photographs of you and me are probably few and far between,
So I know that it's a lot to ask to keep me in your memory.
But as the days are passing by, and I am just another guy
That you may have once felt something for but now it's hard to say for sure,

If I could ask for just one thing,
Would you still do this for me?
If I could have one last request,
Would you just promise me this?
Please smile when you remember me.
