The Town Sleeps Songtext
it's one am tonight and i walk through the grass and leave behind
a beautiful sight
now into the streets where a haze held by the leaves hangs underneath
a perfect sky
i should head home but i just can't resist a night like this
so i stared up the street to where all the shadows meet
i had to know. i had to go.
see the searchlight swing across the sky
i think someday i'll walk there but not tonight
i need this time to help clear out my mind
this road is always busy, but now it's dead tonight
and i walk the line the serves to divide
the traffic from eachother and the clear thoughts from the lies
that make life seem simpler in our minds
when you're too busy to see what lies buried underneath
your clothes and your apartment
your cell phone and your wallet
take it all back, i don't want that
see the searchlight swing across the sky
i think someday i'll walk there but not tonight
i need this time to help clear out my mind
there's always something left to find
now the town sleeps and i must admit, quite frankly
i never knew that these streets could be so empty
now the town sleeps and the concrete is so inviting
and the air burns from street lights
i wish i could lay down, i wish that i knew some constellations
cause the stars are all laid out in front of me
as i stand in this field, not sure how to feel
but i've hardly felt so free
now the town sleeps and i wish to join their ranks
i never knew the night brought on such a change
a beautiful sight
now into the streets where a haze held by the leaves hangs underneath
a perfect sky
i should head home but i just can't resist a night like this
so i stared up the street to where all the shadows meet
i had to know. i had to go.
see the searchlight swing across the sky
i think someday i'll walk there but not tonight
