Red Roots

I looked out my window and I saw it on the grass
Drifted oh so slowly by the time it came at last
You were down
In the ground

Knew I recognized the face that I had seen before
Sunken eyes and smiling mouth I opened up the door
My heart may pound
But not a sound

Don't worry about me no more
I'll be there with you I'm sure

Tore open the earth and let me know why I was there
Said I'd lived a long life but it was my time to share
My body 'round
With the ground

Called upon the last words that I've spoken to this day
Knew I'd been a good man didn't find a need to pray
I said at last
Its come to pass

Don't spare mind for my mistakes
Bear them with me to the grave
Why do I still feel afraid?
All part of a great cascade

You rise you cry you come to blows
In hoping I come soon
I stayed there by your side in life
I want to stay now too
