É Tão Grande O Alentejo (It?s So Big The Alentejo)

In Alentejo* I work
cultivating hard land,
smoking my cigarette,
putting in my hours,
throwing the seed to the land.
It?s so big the Alentejo,
so much neglected land!...
The land is the one that gives us bread,
for the good of this nation
it should be sustained.
It?s always been forgotten,
at the south edge of Tejo,
the people without work.
So much neglected land,
it?s so big the Alentejo!
