Night Shift

I hear brother doing pushups
on the other side of the wall
in reps of 10 he goes 10-1 10-2 10-3
then he falls.
then I hear mother shouting
from down the hall
she says “boys it’s getting late”

me and my girl got stuck last night
with some speed freaks
all the shadows on Union Square
looked like post-crucified thieves.
my girl lay me down
in the litter and dead leaves
she said “I can’t wait”
