Shadow

There's a shadow hanging around
The neighbourhood hears spooky sounds
I hear that he's a bit peculiar
There are rumours all over town

There's a shadow but I've never seen his face
I hear he sleeps away his days
He seems a little bit familiar
He seems a little bit like someone I know

And in my tiny world
In my silent room
In the stillness of the afternoon
Where nothing ever changes
& the scene remains the same:
three fallen leaves on a silent lane

There is something in the air tonight
Down by the river the seagulls take flight
This isn't how I thought the future would be like
three clouds that float across a hazy august sky

And in the tiny world that I've built for myself
10 dusty books on a dusty shelf
No one ever enters & no one ever leaves
but the day for some other one to seize
