I Sing For You Songtext

You say you don't like the way that Conor sings
I'm sorry but I can't agree with you at all
'Cause you see, to me, his words sink down so deep
They make me feel alive and like I've got a soul

At least you agree that he writes great poetry
You say you just don't like the way it sounds
Me, I think it's great 'cause he's not hiding anything
He just lets it all pour out

Some people say that they think that he's a fake
or they think that his songs are too sad
Why would I want to listen to something
that makes me feel so bad?

But sad songs don't make me wanna die
No they make me want to be alive
And happy songs always sound so wrong
and I bet you most of them are lies
Yeah, I bet most of them are the lies

Dave Don Darrow was playing with Bright Eyes
and got us both into the show
Everytime Conor would walk by he would smile
at us and always say "Hello"
He watched the other bands play from the backstage
and knew words to all their songs and he sang
When he began to play I took your hand
and they blew us both away

We walked home through the crunchy yellow leaves
and i said "Dear now do you see what I mean?"
And you said you still agree that he writes great poetry
And you said that you would agree that he's got sincerity
And you said you would agree he plays with so much intensity
But you still don't like the way he sings

So I promised you right there
I would learn his songs for you
and I did my best, I swear
I did the best that I could do
