Large Bodies of Water

So you took to the mountains.
I will wait in the hills
far past the ameliorating effects
of large bodies of water
drowning the streets where we live
to keep my heart from freezing solid

Say "hello" to an old friend
whose portrait hangs on the wall
in the place where two became one
I remember conversations
like the tide on the shoreline
where sand meets water
and like the line in the city
where stone holds water back
I remember "helpless we are"

I see dimly as if through a glass
but on that day when I see face to face
the scars that mark my heart will fade
like water running into the sea
"I still dream" of water wider than the sky
