You was an angel on the day that I was born
Standing over my cradle singing some sad song for me
Still too young to see.

Oh but I can still remember the sad, sweet sound
Of the vowels and the consonants coming out of your mouth.

As you stood above me I was filled with a calm
You took my tiny hand in your palm
Where you stay there with me 'til you had to go away.

And the candle flickered in the corner of the room
