don't pretend you like what i am doing
i don't care if you're ten steps ahead of me
listen to me you must know what i'm thinking
yeah it probably seems like i was deserting you
but you've gotta understand
that's not what i want to do

i'll give you all the space i'm willing to hold my breath
i can't stand the thought of settleing for less
after all this i'll be left with a giant mess
but there's not way i'll let this get away
or settle for less

i can see from here that this may take a while
but it's probably worth the wait
so i'll grin and bear it with a smile
i never meant to cause you all this pain
but you've gotta understand
